Welcome to Meyer Hatchery’s retail store, your one-stop shop for poultry keepers! Whether you’re looking to start your flock with baby chicks, pick up hatching eggs, or stock up on quality poultry supplies, our store has something for everyone. In this blog, we answer common questions about what’s available in-store, from assorted chicks and broad-breasted turkeys to feed, decor, and more. Read on to learn about our offerings, policies, and tips for planning your visit to ensure a successful trip!

Can I purchase chicks in the store?
Sometimes! We occasionally have assorted bin chicks available for purchase in the retail store. These are extra standard female layer breeds from the week’s hatch, but may also include bantams or meat birds. If bantams are available, they will be in a separate bin. Bin chick availability varies, so we highly recommend calling ahead before you make a long drive to confirm availability.

Can I purchase specific breeds in the retail store?
No, we do not have specific breeds available for walk-in purchase. We only hatch one day a week, and those chicks are allocated for shipping and pre-orders first. Any extra chicks go into the bin in the store. We do not have additional chicks throughout the week because hatch dates are planned well in advance, often a year or more.
How can I purchase and pick up hatching eggs?
- Hatching eggs must be ordered and paid for in advance. When placing your order on our website, you will select a pickup date from the availability calendar at checkout. We do not accept payment at the time of pickup.
- We collect eggs daily and store them until the right time to set them in incubators, ensuring we have the exact number needed for anticipated orders. Because of this process, hatching eggs are not available for same-day pickup or walk-in purchases – we don’t have them sitting on shelves like a store.
- Hatching egg orders must be picked up within the first 48 hours after being packed, the date selected at checkout – no exceptions. If you do not pick up your order during the stated pickup times, you forfeit the amount paid due to the perishable nature of the items. You can read more of our policies, here.
- Duck, quail, and guinea hatching eggs are only available for shipping and cannot be picked up in-store.
Can I purchase ducklings, guineas, or turkeys at the retail store?
Generally, no. Ducklings, guineas, and heritage turkeys are not typically available for purchase in the store. These birds are shipped from hatching partners, so it is very rare to find them in-store. However, broad-breasted turkeys may occasionally be available in the store bins from March – August, but availability is limited.

Why aren’t turkeys available all year?
Turkeys are seasonal. If you want a specific breed, we recommend ordering as early as possible – ordering for the upcoming season usually begins around Late October / Early November.
There may be some weeks when broad-breasted turkeys are available in the store bins, but availability is not guaranteed. As the most popular order dates in July and August approach, store stock becomes even more limited. If you need turkeys, pre-ordering is the best option.
What other products are available in the retail store?
You’ll find a great selection of products for you, your flock, and your home! We carry:
- For your flock – Feed, treats, feeders, and waterers
- For you and your home – Decor, books, mugs, and processing supplies
- For kids – Books, puzzles, and stickers
We hope this has helped answer your questions about our retail store! If you’re planning a visit, we encourage you to call or chat to check on chick availability. Our customer service team is always happy to assist, whether you need help placing an order or just have a quick question. We look forward to helping you with all your poultry needs!
